Rationale and Analysis

Marcus Mariota has started for 10 games this season and will be the Commanders’ starting quarterback for the remaining games. In 10 games, Mariota has totaled 7 interceptions, with 3 interceptions in his last four games. The Eagles passing defense is starting to come around and have entered top-10 as Week 16 is approaching. With Mariota’s tendency to go for risky passes looking for a TD and his recent four game stretch where he threw at least one pick in 3 of 4 games, we believe this is a great bet.

Saquon Barkley has played amazing in his last two games against the Chargers and the Raiders. He notched 122 yards on 20 attempts and a TD against Los Angeles and 78 rush yards on 22 attempts and a TD against the Raiders. Looking at his last two games and the Commanders’ 28th ranked rushing defense allowing 136.3 yards and 14 TDs so far, and their 28th ranked red zone defense, this is a great bet.

Outside of his rookie season, Jalen Hurts has career lows in rushing attempts (95), rushing yards (376), and rushing TDs (8). Hurts only has one game above 7.5 attempts in his last 10 games and has relied more on his passing ability or Saquon Barkley’s rushing ability this season. Looking at his recent stretch of games, we believe Hurts will most likely stay under 7.5 rushing attempts in this game. It also helps that the Commanders’ pass defense is slightly worse off than their rushing defense, allowing Hurts to pass more in this game.

Commanders vs Eagles Prediction

In this NFC East clash, the Eagles visit the struggling Commanders, who have shut down their sophomore QB Jayden Daniels for the season. Philly, rebounding with a dominant shutout win, boasts a strong defense and balanced offense led by Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. Backup Marcus Mariota could give Washington a spark, but the talent gap is far too wide for them to beat the Eagles. Expect the Eagles to clinch the division with a win and should control this one comfortably.
