Antony Opens Up on Shock Bayern Munich Approach Before Making Real Betis Move

Antony’s resurgence in Spain has already reshaped his career once. However, a new twist has emerged after the Brazilian revealed that Bayern Munich attempted to lure him during the recent transfer window. Antony had been struggling during his time at Manchester United.

However, he rebuilt his confidence during a standout loan spell at Real Betis. And that revival clearly captured attention far beyond La Liga. The 25-year-old eventually sealed a permanent move to Betis in September. However, he admitted that Bayern made a late and unexpected attempt to sign him.

A Conversation That Changed His Summer

Speaking to Globo Esporte, Antony described the moment Bayern entered the picture and how the approach left him taken aback. He recalled receiving a late-night call from Vincent Kompany. He explained how he felt speaking to the German club coach. He said: 

“I’m going to be completely honest. It really shook me up. We’re talking about a global giant, Bayern Munich, where a coach with that kind of history, Kompany, calls me.” Antony explained that Kompany’s polite, direct approach made a strong impression.

Especially considering the stature of both club and coach. The timing of the call, which was close to midnight, only added to the surprise. The Brazilian admitted the call ‘affected’ him. He explained that the manner of the conversation and the respect shown had an emotional impact. 

Why Did Antony Ultimately Join Real Betis?

Antony’s words reflect that Bayern’s appeal has touched him. Additionally, he had the opportunity to join a club competing for trophies on multiple fronts both domestically and in Europe. Even so, Antony ultimately turned the offer down. Why?

The winger made it clear that his final decision wasn’t about football alone. Family stability, especially for his young son, weighed heavily on him. referencing his life in Seville and the comfort his family had found there, he said, “What weighed heavily on my decision was that I’m a family man… Lorenzo loves this place, loves this city.”

Betis had already offered him something Bayern couldn’t. They offered him continuity, trust, and a starring role. He registered six goals and two assists in his first 11 appearances this season. He has repaid that faith, emerging as a central figure in the team’s attacking setup.
