The Los Angeles Lakers recorded their first win of the season!!!
Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic has been shouldering the team’s offensive duties well in the absence of LeBron James. On Friday, he dropped a monstrous performance of 49 points with 11 rebounds, and eight assists to power the Lakers to a significant 128-110 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. On the other hand, the Golden State Warriors suffered a 20-point defeat at the hands of the Portland Trail Blazers, despite Stephen Curry’s 35 points.
Let’s take a closer look at two of the most exciting NBA games that took place on Friday, October 25.
The Los Angeles Lakers bounced back from their season-opening defeat and defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 128-110 at home to record their first win of the season. Luka Doncic dropped a historic game with 49 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists to become the first-ever Laker to start a season with two back-to-back 40-point games. He was shooting 14-of-23 from the field, 5-of-12 from the three-point range, and 16-of-19 from the free-throw line.
The Slovenian joined Anthony Davis, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain as the only players in the history of the league to score at least 40 points in two consecutive games opening the season. Apart from him, Austin Reaves poured in 25 points, seven rebounds, and 11 assists for the Lakers while Rui Hachimura contributed 23 points, and two rebounds. Deandre Ayton came up with 15 points, and eight rebounds for the hosts.
After a sleepy first quarter, the Lakers announced their arrival in the game and went on to score their rivals in the next three quarters. As a team, they shot 45-of-76 from the field for a 59.2 shooting percentage, and 12-of-29 from the three-point range for 41.4% shooting percentage. Moreover, they hit 26-of-32 of their free-throws for 81.3 shooting percentage.
On the other hand, Anthony Edwards led the Minnesota Timberwolves for 31 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Julius Randle dropped 26 points, nine rebounds, and five assists while Done DiVincenzo and Jaden McDaniels finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively. They were held to 41-of-88 (46.6%) from the field, 13-of-38 (34.2%) from the three-point range, and 15-of-21 from the free-throw line.
The Golden State Warriors, who kicked off the season with a notable victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, failed to continue their momentum and slumped to the Portland Trail Blazers 139-119. This 20-point defeat ended their two-game winning streak, which had already put them ahead of most of the teams in the Western Conference.
Stephen Curry dropped a remarkable performance of 35 points, six rebounds, and three assists. He became the oldest player in NBA history to record 35 points on consecutive nights. The four-time champion was shooting 12-of-22 from the field and 7-of-14 from the three-point range. He is now the second player behind Michael Jordan to have the most 35-point games in the NBA after turning 30-years old at 90.
Jonathan Kuminga dropped 16 points for the Dubs with 8 rebounds, and three assists while Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green came up with 14 and 12 points, respectively. On the other hand, a collective effort from the Trail Blazers saw Deni Avdija posting 26 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Jerami Grant posted 22 points off the bench, whereas Toumani Camara added 19 points on the scoreboard.
In addition to them, Shaedon Sharpe, Donovan Clingan, Kris Murray, Jrue Holiday and Matisse Thybulle were other players who finished with double-digit scores. Overall, they shot 50-of-93 from the field, 16-of-34 from the deep and 23-of-25 from the free throw line while restricting the Dubs to 35-of-80 from the field, 16-of-38 from the three-point range, and 33-of-39 from the free-throw line.
