Chelsea have suffered a fresh setback as Cole Palmer remains sidelined while continuing his recovery from a recurring groin injury. The 23-year-old forward has not featured for the Blues since being forced off during the 2-1 win over West Ham on September 20. His absence has been deeply felt by Enzo Maresca’s side, which has struggled for consistency in recent weeks.
Palmer had been one of Chelsea’s brightest performers since his breakout campaign last season. His ongoing spell on the sidelines is a major concern for both club and country. Last season, Palmer enjoyed a breakout campaign, registering 26 goals and 13 assists across all competitions. He delivered standout performances in the Conference League and Club World Cup finals, where he contributed directly to five goals.
Since Cole Palmer signed for @ChelseaFC, he's scored the most goals, made the most assists and created the most chances, but their win is actually better without him…

So how will his long-term injury affect them? 🤔
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Cole Palmer will be sidelined for another six weeks due to the lingering groin injury. The 23-year-old was forced off the pitch on September 20 following a recurrence of an issue that first surfaced during Chelsea’s pre-season. Notably, Palmer has made just three Premier League appearances this season due to the injury. He was initially expected to return in early November.

However, Maresca revealed during Friday’s press conference that the forward’s recovery has taken longer than anticipated. “I was wrong,” Maresca admitted. “Unfortunately, he needs to be out probably six more weeks. The medical staff are doing their best – the most important thing is that when he returns, he’s fully fit.”
The Italian manager dismissed fears of surgery and he stressed that the focus is on ensuring Palmer’s full recovery. “We try to protect Cole as much as we can. He looks relaxed and is doing all the therapy,” Maresca said. “To replace him is difficult because he’s one of the best players in the Premier League – we don’t have another player like Cole.”

Palmer’s absence means he will miss key fixtures against Sunderland, Tottenham, Burnley and Arsenal in the Premier League. He will also miss out on Champions League clashes with Ajax, Qarabag and Barcelona. The setback is particularly frustrating for the England international, who would have been hoping to impress England manager Thomas Tuchel ahead of next summer’s World Cup. Having established himself as one of the Premier League’s most influential young attackers, the England international now faces a crucial period in his rehabilitation.
