The Jacksonville Jaguars are making the entire league take notice after a blistering start to their season that now sees them tied for the best record in the AFC with the Bills and the Colts. The 4-1 start to their season is quite surprising when taking their past couple of seasons into perspective.

Over the past two weeks, the Jags have won consecutive games against the 49ers first, and then the Chiefs during Monday Night’s prime-time window. But what exactly has changed for the AFC South team?

Analyst Kay Adams’ Take on Jaguars’ Recent Success

Speaking on her ‘Up & Adams’ podcast, NFL analyst Kay Adams pointed out a few things that have the Jaguars contending with the top teams in the AFC. One of the main reasons for the Jaguars’ win over the Chiefs on Monday Night was the spectacular play by quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

According to Adams, the former number one pick stepped up on national television in a prime-time game and took the game to the Chiefs, despite being down by 14 in the second quarter.

Lawrence not only finished the game with 221 passing yards and a touchdown, but he also added 54 yards and 2 touchdowns running the ball. He was the leading rusher on the team, led a game-winning last drive, and came up clutch when the lights shone the brightest against a Chiefs team that is regaining its offensive explosiveness over the past couple of games.

What Are the Other Factors at Play for the Jaguars’ Excellent Start?

Overall, the Jaguars are playing at a higher potential than expected on both sides of the ball. Currently, through 5 weeks of football, they rank 10th in the league with 26 points per game, while the defense is allowing just 20 points per game, which is good for 8th in the league.

Linebacker Devin Lloyd has been outstanding and is the current leader with 4 interceptions from just 5 games, including the most recent 99-yard pick-six of Patrick Mahomes last week.

On offense, running back Travis Etienne Jr. has had an excellent start to the season with 443 rushing yards, which ranks fourth-best in the league. Moreover, Travis Hunter and Brian Thomas Jr. both showed promise last week against the Chiefs, and if they keep building chemistry with Trevor Lawrence, this offense could reach new heights.

Finally, the coaching staff is one that deserves plenty of acclaim as well. Liam Coen has turned around the fortunes of this team in quick time despite this being his rookie season as a head coach in the NFL. Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile also deserves a ton of praise for the way he has encouraged his unit to step up and make big plays.

The Jaguars still have some tough games ahead of them on the schedule, but with the way they are currently playing, coupled with some easier games, Jacksonville is in a top position to be in the postseason after a few months’ time.
