New facility set to become the centerpiece of the Sparks’ commitment
The Los Angeles Sparks are set to make a historic move in women’s sports. On Wednesday, the franchise announced plans for a new 55,000-square-foot practice and training facility in El Segundo, scheduled to open in 2027.
The project will cost $150 million, which the team says represents the largest single investment ever made in women’s sports by one franchise.
The complex will include two regulation basketball courts, a weight room and training spaces, indoor-outdoor player sanctuary, nap rooms, and an outdoor spa pool. Team owner Eric Holoman said the facility is designed to elevate both the professional and personal experience of Sparks players.

“We’re building a place where Sparks players can be at their best on and off the court,” Holoman said in a statement. “From cutting-edge training and recovery spaces to family and community areas, every corner of this facility was designed with them at the center.
“It reflects our commitment to our team, our fans, and the city of Los Angeles, and sets a new standard for what a professional sports organization can provide for its athletes.”
The Sparks’ decision mirrors moves by other WNBA franchises to invest in state-of-the-art facilities. The Las Vegas Aces opened their 88,000-square-foot training center in 2023, while the Dallas Wings are on track to open a new facility next year.
The league’s two incoming franchises are also laying groundwork. The Toronto Tempo have a temporary practice space in place as they prepare for their debut. The Portland Fire, also set to join the league next year, will share a facility with the NWSL’s Portland Thorns FC.
The Sparks finished 21-23 last season, the first under head coach Lynne Roberts, and narrowly missed the playoffs. The team has not reached the postseason since 2020, but leadership believes this new investment will play a role in building long-term success.
