Dallas Wings’ Paige Bueckers Shines Again! No. 1 Pick Earns Rookie of the Month Honors for Third Time in a Row

Garima Ranawat

Bueckers averaged 20.3 ppg, 5.0 apg, and 1.2 spg in the month of August.

Dallas Wings’ rookie guard Paige Bueckers continued dominating the league with an impressive run in her rookie season. The former UConn star received her third WNBA Rookie of the Month Award as she claimed the award for the month of August. The No. 1 pick at the 2025 WNBA Draft, Bueckers averaged 20.3 ppg, 5.0 apg, and 1.2 spg last month, along with tying the rookie record for points in a single game with 44 points against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Before the month of August, Bueckers earned WNBA Rookie of the Month honors for the months of June and July. With this, she has become the tenth player in history of the league to have done so. Bueckers has still been the most important player for the Wings in the ongoing season. She also maintained the longest active streak of double-digit scoring games (30) in rookie season before the Golden State Valkyries held her to nine points during the 90-81 loss last month.

Bueckers leads the Wings’ charts with averages of 18.9 ppg, 3.8 rpg, and 5.3 apg. She is shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range, averaging 33 minutes per game. It didn’t take much for the 23-year-old to establish herself as a reliable player even though Dallas sits near the bottom of the standings.

The 2025 NCAA champion is the only player in the WNBA ranking in the top ten across multiple statistical categories, including average scoring, assists and steals. Moreover, Bueckers was named a starter in this season’s WNBA All-Star Game.

Paige Bueckers Solidifies Chances to Win Rookie of the Year Award

Notably, Paige Bueckes is a frontrunner to win the Rookie of the Year Award this season. Now that the season is approaching its end, her third straight Rookie of the Month Award has strengthened her case to win the annual honor, adding another milestone in her debut season. Bueckers is a frontrunner to win the award with overwhelmingly favorable odds at -5000, according to BetMGM. She opened as a -275 favorite to take the award home in 2025.

Notably, this is for the second consecutive year that the No. 1 draft pick entered the season with minus odds to win the award. Before her, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark started with -750 odds and won the 2024 ROY race. Coming back to her, if she wins, Bueckers would become the only second Wings player in the league’s history to win ROY, joining 2017 winner Allisha Gray.
