Manchester United have advanced negotiations with Royal Antwerp over a deal for goalkeeper Senne Lammens. The Premier League giants have been determined to strengthen their squad depth between the posts. However, they haven’t been quite successful in their endeavour so far.
Now only a few days are left for the summer transfer window to close. Sources indicate that a fee of around £17.3m (€20m) is under discussion. The structure of the deal is currently being finalized. Lammens, 23, joined Antwerp from Club Brugge two years ago. He has since made over 50 appearances in the Belgian Pro League.

Standing at 6ft 4in, the Belgian U21 international is reportedly being regarded as a long-term investment rather than an immediate first-choice option. However, with confidence over Onana being lost day by day, Lammens may just be deployed sooner rather than later.
Reportedly, the Red Devils had not initially planned to sign a goalkeeper this summer. However, circumstances have changed after their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on the opening weekend. Andre Onana only recently returned from a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Altay Bayindir made an error that led to Arsenal’s winner.

Now, the club has moved to bolster its goalkeeping options. Ruben Amorim left Onana out of the Arsenal clash. He started at Bayindir and named veteran Tom Heaton on the bench. Bayindir’s performance drew scrutiny after his misjudgment from a corner allowed Riccardo Calafiori to score. Amorim defended the Turkish keeper.
Even so, United remain keen on securing additional competition. Onana is expected to remain at Old Trafford despite speculation. However, he now faces further pressure with Lammens’ potential arrival. Onana will also miss part of the season due to the Africa Cup of Nations in December and January.
United’s hierarchy, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, views this as the right time to secure a talented young goalkeeper for the future. The club previously explored a loan move for Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez. They even considered Gianluigi Donnarumma before deciding against a deal due to wage demands.
Meanwhile, Amorim has confirmed that United are not operating on a “one in, one out” basis. When asked about transfer plans, he said, “We are not waiting to take out someone to bring another player in.” If the deal goes through, Lammens’ signing will provide added depth for the Red Devils.
