Bayer Leverkusen Sign France Defender Loic Bade From Sevilla on Five-Year Deal

Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the signing of France international Loic Bade from Sevilla in a deal worth €29m, plus a potential €4m in add-ons. The 25-year-old has penned a five-year contract with the Bundesliga side. The French defender, who won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2023, had drawn interest from multiple European clubs. However, Leverkusen have won the race to secure his signature.

Bade arrives as part of Leverkusen’s summer rebuild, with Xabi Alonso’s team losing several key players including Jonathan Tah, Florian Wirtz and Granit Xhaka after finishing runners-up in the Bundesliga last season.

Bade’s Impressive Spell at Sevilla

Bade began his career at Le Havre before moving to Rennes, where he initially caught the eye of top clubs. A short loan spell at Nottingham Forest in 2022 proved challenging, but his career found stability at Sevilla, where he joined on loan in the summer of 2022 before the Spanish club made the move permanent for €12m in January 2023.

During his time in Andalusia, Bade made 93 appearances and played a crucial role in Sevilla’s Europa League triumph in 2023. His consistent performances earned him a first senior call-up to the French national team under Didier Deschamps for a Nations League match against Germany.

Sevilla will earn at least a €17m profit from his sale, with the deal potentially rising to €33m if bonuses are met. This could represent nearly three times what the Spanish side initially invested for the defender. Despite interest from AS Roma, Stuttgart, Aston Villa, Inter and Bournemouth, Bade has opted for Leverkusen, who view him as a direct replacement for Jonathan Tah in the heart of defense.

He now joins Erik Ten Hag’s side ahead of their Bundesliga opener against Hoffenheim on Saturday, as they look to challenge Bayern Munich at the top of the table.
