While the Venus Williams and Reilly Opelka pairing is fresh, they both have vast experience on tour. Williams, in particular, is a three-time Olympic gold medalist in doubles. She also won 14 doubles Grand Slams and two mixed doubles majors. Currently on her comeback trail, the 45-year-old is partnering a big-serving former Top-20 player in Opelka. Tied for being the tallest player on tour, the 27-year-old will dominate the baseline while Williams adds fire and accuracy to the team.

As the tournament announced themselves, Karolina Muchova and Andrey Rublev “bring fire and ice to the 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship.” The Czech-Russian duo happen to be some of the most fierce ball strikers on the singles circuit. While Rublev is a consistent name in the singles ATP Top-10, he also has four doubles championships and a mixed doubles Olympic gold medal. Meanwhile, Muchova is a US Open singles semifinalist over the past two years. She also finished fourth in women’s doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The head-to-head record between Williams/Opelka and Muchova/Rublev is currently 0-0. They are two new pairs, and this is the first time they will stand across the net in mixed doubles.
| Williams / Opelka | Category | Muchova / Rublev |

When it comes to movement and court coverage, Muchova and Rublev have a clear advantage. However, the American crowd will be heavily backing the Williams/Opelka pairing. Moreover, the shortened format means that it will not be a real test of endurance like a regular doubles contest. If the Americans can keep the rally length short and sweet, they hold an advantage in this Round-1 encounter.
Prediction: Williams/Opelka in three sets.
