Winners to face Danilovic/Djokovic or Andreeva/Medvedev in the QFs.
In perhaps the most highly anticipated clash at the 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship, blockbuster pairing of Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz begin their campaign against top seeds Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper. While the crowd is likely to be divided in this encounter, the two British No. 1s will fight it out for a spot in the last eight. Which dream team will advance? Keep reading to know what The Playoffs News and BetMGM think.
Out of the four players, it is Jessica Pegula who has the most doubles expertise. A former World No. 1 on the doubles circuit, the American vastly improved her lateral movement and net game due to this. Meanwhile, British southpaw Draper loves the fast paced game and enjoys attacking the ball. One can expect plenty of baseline-heavy rallies from this pair, as their singles prowess could play a role in how they progress.

On the other side of the net, it is hard to predict what to expect from Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu. While the Spaniard has an all-round game filled with power and exuberance, his 22-year-old partner prefers hanging back and outhitting her opponents. Prior to the tournament, Alcaraz revealed that it took him just three days to choose the Briton as his ideal teammate when the former was announced.

The head-to-head record between Raducanu/Alcaraz and Pegula/Draper is currently 0-0. It is the first time these two pairs are playing a competitive tournament together.
| Raducanu / Alcaraz | Category | Pegula / Draper |

There is no doubt that we will get to see some spine-tingling rallies and winners from these two pairs. Alcaraz and Raducanu will get the crowd involved, and will get better as the match goes on. A lot will depend on whether the left-right combination of Pegula and Draper can manage their coordination in terms of defensive ratio. With the men’s World No. 2 potentially suffering from fatigue after the Cincinnati Open final, his fitness remains in question.
Prediction: Raducanu/Alcaraz in three sets.
