The brand new 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship is set to kick off with enthralling action on Tuesday. The No. 2 seeds Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz will begin their campaign against defending mixed doubles champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori on Louis Armstrong Stadium. It will be the first meeting between these pairs, as two brilliant duos kick things off in the two-day carnival.

Although the Rybakina/Fritz pairing seems out of the blue, this will not be their first time competing together. The Kazakh-American pair won the Indian Wells mixed doubles exhibition in March, and complimented each other perfectly well. Ranked No. 10 and No. 4 in singles respectively, Rybakina and Fritz will arguably be the pair that wins the most cheap points due to their immaculate serves. Ahead of the competition, the 27-year-old backed himself to do well in mixed doubles due to his past record, and admitted that him and Rybakina are “one of the teams to beat.”

At the 2024 US Open, No. 3 seeds Errani/Vavassori stunned the world by capturing their first mixed doubles major together. They nearly crashed out in the opening round, after which they did not drop a single set throughout the event. While the 38-year-old veteran Errani knows the doubles game inside out, Vavassori has been the eccentric partner she needed to attain mixed doubles success. The pair followed this with the Indian Wells title and another Grand Slam title at Roland Garros 2025.

In terms of coordination on court however, the Italians are superior by a long distance.
