Jasmine Paolini has become the latest to exit from the polarizing US Open mixed doubles event. The Italian is gearing up for her first Cincinnati Open Final against world No. 3 Iga Swiatek. While that is gearing to be an electric clash, Paolini has revealed the true reason behind letting go of the mixed doubles event and the potential $1 million prize money.

Jasmine Paolini Left Tired After Grueling Cincinnati Open

Jasmine Paolini was expected to team up with Lorenzo Musetti in the first round of the mixed doubles tournament on Tuesday. However, during her interview with Tennis Channel, Paolini admitted her body needs time to recover.

“I need to rest, guys,” Paolini revealed. The star revealed her team has scheduled days off for her after the tough Cincinnati Open, where she defeated Coco Gauff and Veronika Kudermetova. But now Paolini has a big task in her hands if she wants to win her first WTA 1000 final.

Iga Swiatek has been an insurmountable obstacle for Paolini recently. The Italian haven’t been able to register a single win in their last 5 matchups. In fact, only once has Paolini been able to take the game to the third set. The fact that it happened on a hard court (2024 Billie Jean Cup) could be a silver lining for Paolini. But while this matchup heats up, the US Open’s mixed doubles event is now facing another shakeup.

It’s quite unexpected to see the mixed doubles event struggling to fill up spots. When it was first announced, nearly every major star announced their intentions to join the new 16-team format with a huge $1 million prize. But since then, it hasn’t been a smooth run for the tournament.

Aryana Sabalenka was supposed to be a part of this tournament, but then her partner, Grigor Dimitrov, went out with a pectoral injury. Then Coco Gauff, too, made her disinterest in participating known to fans.

Jasmine Paolini joins Emma Navarro and Tommy Paul in the list of players who have pulled out of this event. Though they are official participants, the biggest worry remains the current finalists of the men’s Cincinnati Open finals.

Jannik Sinner will be going against Carlos Alcaraz, and that has put a question mark on their status. Could the grueling tournament and the impending Singles US Open event prove to be a hindrance for possibly Tennis’ two biggest stars right now? Possibly. And that could become a major headache for organizers.
