Manchester United have secured the signing of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko for £73.7m. The Red Devils beat Newcastle United for the signing of the highly sought-after Slovenia international. The 22-year-old has penned a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with United set to pay an initial £66.26m (€76.5m) plus £7.36m (€8.5m) in performance-related add-ons.
Newcastle had made two substantial bids for Sesko but United were determined to avoid a bidding war and ultimately paid less up front than their Premier League rivals’ improved offer. The forward will be officially unveiled to fans on Saturday before United’s final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina.

Benjamin Sesko is officially a Manchester United player! 🙌
Sesko arrives as United’s third major attacking addition of the summer, following Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. The striker has been in prolific form since joining Leipzig from sister club RB Salzburg in 2023. He scored 39 goals and provided eight assists in 87 appearances across all competitions. Notably, Sesko is currently the highest-scoring player aged under 23 across Europe’s top five leagues, one ahead of Jude Bellingham and five clear of Florian Wirtz.

Speaking after completing his move to Manchester United, Benjamin Sesko expressed his excitement about the club’s vision and environment. The Slovenian said,
“When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.”
“From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions.”

Meanwhile, the signing of Benjamin Sesko has cast doubt over the future of Rasmus Hojlund at Manchester United. Hojlund recently said that he wants to stay at the club. However, United are reportedly open to selling the 22-year-old for around £30m.
Seria A giants AC Milan are said to be seriously interested in signing the Danish striker. Hojlund joined United from Atalanta in a £72m deal but he has managed only 14 Premier League goals across two seasons.
