2025 Ballon d’Or Ceremony: Date and Time Revealed

The 69th edition of the Ballon d’Or, football’s most prestigious individual honour, is officially set to take place on Monday, 22 September 2025 at the renowned Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Known for its grandeur and history, the venue will once again host the stars of world football for a night of celebration and recognition.

Since its inception in 1956 by France Football, the Ballon d’Or has stood as the ultimate symbol of excellence in the sport, awarded to the most outstanding player in men’s football. In recent years, the scope of the awards has grown, and with UEFA partnering with Groupe Amaury — the parent company of France Football and L’Équipe — the ceremony has become a more comprehensive celebration of global football talent.

Three New Women’s Awards to Be Introduced

The 2025 edition marks a significant evolution of the ceremony with the introduction of three new categories dedicated to women’s football, further cementing the commitment to gender equality in the sport. Female players will now be recognised not just in the Ballon d’Or Féminin, but also in their own versions of:

Kopa Trophy – for the best young player
Yashin Trophy – for the best goalkeeper
Gerd Müller Trophy – for top scorer at club or national level
Johan Cruyff Trophy – for best coach at club or national level
Club of the Year – recognising excellence in women’s club football

These categories mirror those awarded on the men’s side, reflecting the growing impact and visibility of the women’s game across the globe.

Recognition Beyond the Pitch

In addition to the sporting awards, the Sócrates Award will return once again. Co-presented by L’Équipe and Peace and Sport, it honours athletes making a meaningful impact off the pitch through social initiatives, charitable work, or campaigns for justice and equality.
