Ritam Dey

As the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony edges closer, France Football has unveiled the 10 nominees for the Yachine Trophy, an award that celebrates the best goalkeeper of the past season. With the ceremony set to be held on 22 September at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, anticipation is building as fans and pundits await to see who will be crowned the world’s top shot-stopper.

Yachine Trophy 2025: 10-Man Shortlist Announced

Among the nominees is Alisson Becker, the ever-reliable Brazilian keeper from Liverpool, who enjoyed another standout season in the Premier League. Yassine Bounou, Morocco’s World Cup hero now playing for Saudi club Al Hilal, also makes the list following another solid year between the posts.

Thibaut Courtois returns to contention despite injury setbacks, having impressed during Real Madrid’s crucial Champions League ties. From Paris Saint-Germain, Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma is also nominated, continuing to be a consistent figure for both club and country.

Emiliano Martinez, Aston Villa’s talisman in goal, earns his spot after helping Villa return to Europe and maintain one of the best defensive records in the league. Also making the list is Jan Oblak, the stalwart for Atlético Madrid, and David Raya, who solidified his position at Arsenal with several standout displays.

The list is rounded off by Matz Sels of Nottingham Forest, Belgian veteran Yann Sommer who had a successful debut season at Inter Milan, and young French talent Lucas Chevalier, who continues to impress at Lille with his reflexes and maturity beyond his years.

The Yachine Trophy is awarded purely based on performances from the 2024-25 season and is one of several prestigious awards to be handed out during the Ballon d’Or gala.

Michelle Agyemang Nominated for Women’s Kopa Trophy

In the women’s category, Michelle Agyemang has been nominated for the Women’s Kopa Trophy, which honours the best young player under 21. The British-Ghanaian teenager was instrumental in England’s triumphant Euro 2025 campaign, scoring key goals against Sweden and Italy and playing a crucial role in the final against Spain, where she came off the bench to help the Lionesses win on penalties.

Agyemang’s nomination not only highlights her remarkable potential but also signifies the growing competitiveness and recognition of women’s football on the global stage.
