Carlos Alcaraz takes on Lorenzo Musetti in the first semi-final
The first of the men’s semi-finals at the 2025 French Open features the number 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz, going up against the surging Lorenzo Musetti. While Alcaraz is eyeing to defend his crown from last year, Musetti is aiming to reach his first-ever final at a major.
The stage is set for an epic showdown, with the winner earning the chance to fight for the Coupe des Mousquetaires on Sunday against either Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic.
This semi-final clash between Alcaraz and Musetti has the makings of turning into an entertaining battle. On one side, the Spaniard has an all-around game based on his movement, while the Italian is known for his signature one-handed backhand. Despite contrasting styles, both have played excellent tennis leading up to this match.
Alcaraz has been in fine form since the start of the clay season. He began by winning the Monte-Carlo Masters, reaching the final of the Barcelona Open, and then winning the Italian Open just ahead of Roland Garros. Earlier in the season, the Spaniard also won a title at the ATP Rotterdam and had a couple of other strong performances, including a semi-final run at Indian Wells.

8th seed Musseti has had an equally impressive clay-court season, even though he doesn’t have a title to show for it. Nevertheless, he made it to the Monte-Carlo Masters final only to lose to Alcaraz after a huge win over Alexander Zverev in the semis. He then made back-to-back semi-finals in Madrid and Rome, with another win over Zverev in the Italian capital.

nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
