Carlos Alcaraz vs. Damir Dzumhur Preview, Prediction and Betting Odds for the French Open 2025 Round 3

Rudra Dubey

Alcaraz eyes another deep run as he meets seasoned underdog Dzumhur in Round 3

The defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz, will take on unseeded Damir Dzumhur in the third round of the 2025 Roland Garros. Dzumhur battled through a four-set win over lucky loser Thiago Agustin Tirante and then stunned 31st seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Alcaraz, meanwhile, cruised past qualifier Giulio Zeppieri in straights before working through a tricky four-setter against Fabio Marozsan.

Though Dzumhur turned pro in 2011, most of his success has come on the Challenger and ITF circuits, where he’s collected 26 singles titles. His three ATP titles date back to 2017-18, and this run marks his best-ever showing in Paris.

Now, he faces world No. 2 and a heavy favorite, Alcaraz, who is already a four-time Grand Slam champion and is on a tear this season. But Roland Garros always leaves room for surprises. The most recent one came by the name of Casper Ruud, who fell to Nuno Borges. In tennis, momentum shifts quickly, and Dzumhur could be riding one.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Damir Dzumhur Preview

Alcaraz has been phenomenal this season, racking up titles in Rotterdam, Monte Carlo, and Rome, along with a finals appearance in Barcelona. He also made the quarterfinals in Melbourne and Qatar, plus a semifinal run in Indian Wells. The only real blip came in Miami, where he suffered a surprise early exit to David Goffin in three sets. He also withdrew from Madrid due to an adductor (hamstring) issue.

Statistically, he’s been rock solid with 133 aces, winning 71% of first-serve points, 37% on first-serve returns, and converting 45% of his 323 break point opportunities.

Dzumhur’s year has been more modest but steady. He reached the final at Challenger Cap Cana and made back-to-back semifinal runs in Zadar and Bucharest. A quarterfinal push in Chile was another highlight, though most of his other appearances ended in early rounds or at the last-16 mark.

On the ATP Tour this season, he’s notched 19 aces, won 59% of first-serve points, matched Alcaraz’s 37% on first-serve returns, and converted 44% of 155 break points, respectable numbers for the seasoned Bosnian.

Given Alcaraz’s dominant form, deeper tournament experience, and all-court game, he enters as the clear favorite. Dzumhur’s grit and recent momentum could make for a spirited fight, but it’s hard to see him stopping the defending champion, to be brutally honest.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
