Angel Reese Breaks Major WNBA Record, Overtakes Tina Charles and Yolanda Griffith Amid Sky Struggles

Angel Reese is making waves despite her side’s struggles this season. Chicago Sky are yet to win a WNBA game this season and things got worse as bottom side Phoenix Mercury who were also winless registered their first win against the Sky.

Amidst the collective chaos, Angel Reese has broken a major record in the WNBA. She became the fastest player in the league’s history to hit 500+ and 500+ rebounds. At just 23, Reese smashed the 500-500 milestone in only 38 games, leaving behind Tina Charles’ long-standing record of 44.

She also surpassed Yolanda Griffith on Tuesday who chased the feat in 49 games. Reese is known for her rebounding skills and was one of the leading candidates for the Rookie of the Year award last season. She managed to hit the ground running after her debut in the WNBA.

However, despite that, the Chicago Sky managed to finish at the 10th position last season. They could win only 13 times and lost 27 games. Sky have more or less remained the same coming into the new WNBA season. Angel Reese this season also has the help from rookie Hailey Van Lith.

Chicago Sky’s Late Game Troubles Continue

The Chicago Sky has had their fourth straight loss of the new season after going down against the Phoenix Mercury. The Mercury who were also coming into this game with a winless record managed to pull themselves up and perform better than their opponents.

The Sky started strong, grabbing a 21-17 lead after the first quarter and riding that momentum through the second. For the first time this season, the Chicago Sky players started believing. However, their post half-time performances were telling a different story.

But after halftime, it was a completely different story, one where Chicago’s defense crumbled and Phoenix took full advantage. As a result of that, they emerged victorious with a 94-89 win. Despite Ariel Atkins’ 21-point effort, the Sky’s late-game defense simply couldn’t stop the bleeding. Satou Sabally (20 points), Monique Akoa Makani (13 points), and Alyssa Thomas (10 points and 15 assists) led Mercury to their first victory this season.
