“She Will End Up Being Best Player in the League”- Diana Taurasi Has High Hopes for Dallas Wings Rookie Paige Bueckers

WNBA Great Diana Taurasi is all praise for Paige Bueckers!

Former WNBA superstar Diana Taurasi made a bold claim shortly after hanging up her boots following a glorious career spanning over two decades. Taurasi claimed that Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers will end up being the best player in the league. Taurasi’s claims came as no surprise since the UConn pride runs deep in her. She has all good things to say for Bueckers, who won her first NCAA title, marking a remarkable end of her collegiate career.

Taurasi, a three-time WNBA champion, appeared on Ben Pickman’s podcast, ‘No Offseason’, where she heaped praise on her fellow UConn alum. She said that considering Paige is so grounded and so patient, Bueckers will end up being the best player in the league. The six-time Olympic gold medalist said, “And the one thing I know about Paige is she’s so grounded, so patient, and she’s so prepared.”

She added, “She’s learned that in the last four or five years, and all those things that she learned at Connecticut are going to change the way you look at that team. One day, she’s going to end up being the best player in the league for sure.”

Taurasi, regarded as one of the greatest players in the WNBA went on to say that Paige’s instincts on the court are incredible. She added that once Bueckers’ tremendous talent gets unblocked, there is no stopping for the rookie star.

The 11-time WNBA star continued, “Paige’s instincts on the court are just incredible, and it takes a special skill and talent when you can galvanize a group of people. I’ve been around her long enough to know that once they get the right group around her, things will change because of her skill set and her ability to distribute and score. Paige just has tremendous talent, and once it’s unlocked, I’m going to be really excited to watch her play.”

Paige Bueckers in WNBA Rookie Season

Bueckers, who finished her college career with the highest scoring average and third-most points in the history of the program, was drafted in the WNBA as the first overall pick by the Dallas Wings. In her first game as pro, Bueckers 10 points, seven rebounds, and two assists for her side, as the Wings suffered a 99-84 loss to the 2024 finalists, Minnesota Lynx.

Bueckers has been scoring in double digits since her debut for the league. However, she wasn’t able to lead the side to the other side of the victory. The Wings’ first win of the season came as they took down the Connecticut Sun 109-87 on Tuesday, May 27. In the game, the 23-year-old came up with her career-best performance. She dropped 21 points, five rebounds, and seven assists.

Before this game, the Wings lost four consecutive losses, twice to the Lynx, the Storm, and the Atlanta Dream. In their next fixture, they will be up against the Chicago Sky on Friday, May 30 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
