Devavrat Kulkarni

The 2025 Schedule for the Detroit Lions looks intense!

With the 2024 season all over, it is time to turn our attention to the 2025 season. For the Detroit Lions, the 2024 season was once again a big success, although their wait for making the Super Bowl continues each passing year. It is now 2 straight years that the Lions have made it deep into the playoffs, but both times they fell short when they were expected to march on. Unfortunately, for Lions fans, what is done is done and one can only look forward to the future with hope still intact.

Between now and the start of the 2025 regular season, several changes will take place for all 32 NFL teams. The draft will see a plethora of new players enter the league, there will be quite a few retirements from the game, teams will make some free agent signings, they will release some other players, and much, much more. However, one thing is set in stone even now. We already have the full list of opponents the Detroit Lions will face in the 2025 season.

Even though the schedule for the new season will be released later, we already know which teams the Lions will face and which of those games will be home and away.

Detroit Lions 2025 Season Home Games

As per the NFL’s policy, each team will play the other three teams in their division twice, once at home and once on the road. The Detroit Lions belong to the NFC North division, which includes the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers, and the Minnesota Vikings. Therefore, the Lions will face each of these teams once at home.

Then, the Lions will face four teams from another division in their conference (NFC), but only two games will be home games. This year, the NFC North will face off against the NFC East. The Lions will play the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants at home.

Moreover, Detroit will face the four teams of one division from the other conference (AFC). As per the NFL’s rotational policy, the NFC North will play the AFC North this year, with two of the games being at home. The Lions’ home games will be against the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Lions will then play 3 division winners – 2 from the NFC, NFC South, and NFC West as well as the AFC West Champions as they finished atop the NFC North in 2024. However, they have only one home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFC South).

Recap of Lions 2025 home games: Chicago, Green Bay, Minnesota, Dallas, New York Giants, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay.

Detroit Lions 2025 Season Away Games

As for the away games, the NFL alternates between 8 or 9 away games each year. One year the AFC gets 9 away games, and the next year the NFC gets 9 away games. In 2025, the NFC will be playing 9 times on the road. Starting with the NFC North once again, the Lions will play against the Bears, Packers, and Vikings.

From the NFC East, the Lions will play the current Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders. From the AFC North, Detroit travels to Baltimore and Cincinnati for its road games.

“Finally, they will face the division winners Los Angeles Rams (NFC West), and the Kansas City Chiefs (AFC West) on the road to round up their 9 road games.”

Recap of Lions 2025 away games: Chicago, Green Bay, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Washington, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Los Angeles Rams, and Kansas City.

Detroit Lions 2025 Biggest Offseason Moves

Some of the biggest offseason moves for the Lions thus far include the signings of cornerback D.J. Reed and linebacker Derrick Barnes. Reed, who was previously with the Jets signed a 3-year deal worth $48 million while Barnes signed a 3-year contract extension worth $25.5 million.

Moreover, the Lions also lost key players such as cornerback Carlton Davis III who signed with the Patriots, and guard Kevin Zeitler who signed with the Titans. Detroit also released defensive end Za’Darius Smith after he played just half a season in the Motor City.

Detroit Lions 2025 NFL Draft Picks

The Lions’ roster is already a decent one, especially on the offensive side of the ball. As such, what hurt them the most were injuries, mainly to star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. With seven picks in this year’s draft, the Lions balanced out their roster with 4 picks on offense and 3 on defense. But more importantly, they selected two guards to help strengthen the offensive line.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
