Andrew Wiggins, born on February 23, 1995, is a Canadian professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Raised in a household with a strong athletic presence, with both parents being former professional athletes, Wiggins quickly developed a solid basketball foundation. He attended Vaughan Secondary School in Vaughan, Ontario, before transferring to Huntington Prep School in Huntington, West Virginia, for his junior and senior years. A highly coveted recruit, Wiggins was widely considered the top prospect in the 2013 high school class, attracting significant attention from various NCAA Division I programs.
Wiggins committed to the University of Kansas for his collegiate career, where he played one season for the Jayhawks. During his freshman year in 2013-2014, he quickly demonstrated his immense talent, averaging 17.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. He averaged 16.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, earning the NBA Rookie of the Year award, becoming the first Canadian player to do so. In February 2020, Wiggins was traded to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for D’Angelo Russell, Jacob Evans, and Omari Spellman.
