Manchester City stole what could be their most crucial three points against Aston Villa on Tuesday. Matheus Nunes scored a stoppage-time winner for Pep Guardiola as they beat Villa 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium. Moving up to the third position with 61 points, Guardiola and his men have received a huge boost to their Champions League campaign.

After going ahead in the first 10 minutes, the Citizens conceded a goal on a penalty scored by Marcus Rashford. After a twisting and turning second half, both sides appeared cautious of the tie. However, Nunes had other plans as he met the end of Jeremy Doku’s pinpoint ball in the dying minutes of the game.

‘I’ve Never Seen Him React Like That’ – Tim Sherwood on Pep Guardiola’s Full-Time Reaction

Manchester City manager Guardiola was animated at the touchline on the full-time whistle. It showed what the victory meant to him as they took a massive step against their top five rivals. Talking about Guardiola’s reaction, former footballer Tim Sherwood shared his thoughts on the Run In:

Starting ahead of Ederson, Stefan Ortega expressed how massive this win was for Manchester City. Nunes who scored his first-ever goal for the club, was praised by the goalkeeper as he spoke in his post-match interview:

“Massive, the situation on the table was and is very tight. We are four points ahead of Aston Villa now. We fully deserved to win today.”

“He’s an unbelievable player. Some players are not playing in their positions but they have been comfortable”

Continuing on his views on the Ruben Dias penalty incident, Ortega continued:

“They told us it is a 50-50 situation. VAR shouldn’t intervene, it was a 50-50 thing for me. There was a tough but it wasn’t intentional. It wasn’t a wrong decision, but for me, VAR shouldn’t intervene”

Aston Villa suffered their 15th straight-away loss to Manchester City on Tuesday. They will head to face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final as they try to shift their focus. After the loss at Etihad, Villa could give it their all in the FA Cup for Champions League football next year.
