What Draft Picks Do the Houston Texans Have in 2025? All Houston Texans 2025 NFL Draft Picks per Round

Devavrat Kulkarni

A good draft this year could help the Texans go further in the postseason

For two seasons in a row, the Houston Texans have had identical results in terms of their regular season and postseason records. Both years, the Texans finished atop the AFC South with a 10-7 record, made it to the playoffs and lost in the Divisional round after big wins in the Wild Card round. However, on the field, it was an altogether different story.

With the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, the Texans drafted quarterback C.J. Stroud out of Ohio State, who ended up having one of the best seasons ever for a rookie QB en route to being named the Offensive Rookie of the Year. It looked like a defensively sound team with an explosive offense would get only better in 2024, but that was not to be.

Last year, the Texans’ offensive line was atrocious, and that had a hugely negative effect on Stroud and his ability to find receivers. While the tackle play was fine, the interior of the line was a huge problem, resulting in poor pass-blocking and pressure rate. In the offseason, Houston has traded away Laremy Tunsil, who was their best O-lineman last season, so we will have to wait and see how that shapes up.

Furthermore, injuries to top receivers Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell toward the end of the season were another devastating blow to the team’s success.

What Are the Texans’ Draft Picks in 2025?

The Texans have a total of seven draft picks this year with four picks in the first three rounds. Houston will be selecting in rounds 1-3, 5, and 7. Their first-round pick is number 25 overall, which is toward the end, but four picks within the first 90 is a really good place to be in.

Positional Needs for the Texans

Probably the biggest need from the draft for the Texans remains the O-line, which needs to be addressed at all costs. Without decent protection for Stroud, Houston’s offense won’t be able to function to its full potential.

Additionally, the Texans could look for a receiver in the earlier rounds to add more depth to the roster, especially since Tank Dell may not be available for the upcoming season due to his injury. The signing of Christian Kirk seems to be a good one, and Houston has added more players into the mix, but the receiver room could still use someone who can be a good option in the future.

On defense, Houston has two big weapons off the edge with Will Anderson Jr. on one side and Danielle Hunter on the other. However, defensive tackle could use more help as an upgrade over Sheldon Rankins or Tim Settle Jr.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
