The Memphis Grizzlies faced off the Golden State Warriors in the Play-In Tournament, for the seventh seed in the West. The stakes could not have been any higher than it was today, as the Warriors and the Grizzlies both wanted the 7th seed desperately. Winning the 7th seed would mean that the Warriors or the Grizzlies would take on the 2nd seeded Houston Rockets. While the Rockets aren’t a bad team, many analysts and fans believe that they do not have the right experience to beat some of the teams in the Western Conference. Hence the intense battle for the 7th seed.

The Golden State Warriors beat the Memphis Grizzlies with the final score of 121-116. The Warriors got off to a great start, but the Grizzlies fought back and got back in the game. In the final stretches of the game, the Grizzlies gave away the possession of the ball, due to 5-second violation while trying to inbound the ball, which cost them the game. It was a close victory for the Warriors, but now they’ll face the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs.

Ja Morant’s Ankle Injury

In the showdown between the two teams, Morant suffered a right ankle injury and that may have put the Grizzlies’ playoff hopes in jeopardy. The injury occurred when Morant went up for a shot, but landed awkwardly on Warriors guard Buddy Hield’s foot. He fell down on the court in visible pain. However, despite the injury, Morant came back in the fourth quarter when the Grizzlies needed him the most. He was limping around the court, but still managed to make a mid-range shot to tie the game.

Morant finished the game with 22 points on 9-18 shooting from the field (50%) along with 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.

Morant Injury Update

Morant’s injury on his right ankle appeared quite serious, and while many wondered about if he will play in the next Play-In game, Morant said “I’m playing. That’s basically the answer I’m giving. It ain’t nothing different.” If he doesn’t play in the next Play-In game, there is a serious chance that the Grizzlies could miss the playoffs entirely this time around.

The Grizzlies will face the winner of the Play-In match between the 9th seeded Sacramento Kings and the 10th seeded Dallas Mavericks.
