2025 ATP Monte Carlo Masters Semifinal Results: Carlos Alcaraz Joins the Greats, Lorenzo Musetti Produces More Comeback Magic

It was an action-packed semifinal Saturday in Monaco.

Carlos Alcaraz and Lorenzo Musetti booked their spots in the final of the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters on Saturday. Both semifinals promised a lot, and did not disappoint in terms of quality. With a new champion confirmed at the Principality, will it be the Spanish bull who claims his first title in Monte Carlo? Or will the Italian sensation beat the odds and capture the trophy in Sunday’s championship face-off?

The Monte Carlo Masters final is set to be a showpiece event. World No. 3 Alcaraz has only featured in the Monaco-based event once previously, and is gunning to get his campaign on the red dirt off to a flyer. On the other hand, Musetti recently claimed that he is feeling great after cracking the code with regards to excelling on the dirt. With defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas relinquishing his title, the onus is on the second and No. 13 seed to grab the prize. Here’s what went down on Saturday:

Carlos Alcaraz Joins Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Others After Straight Sets Victory

In the first semifinal, reigning Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz got the better of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. It was an all-Spanish semifinal on Court Rainier III, and the seeded star proved why he’s still among the best players in the world. The second serve win ratio was the distinguishing factor between the two players – while Alcaraz won 64% points on his second serve, ADF managed a mere 34%.

Alcaraz broke Fokina in his very first service game, and went up 3-0 in no time. However, the players exchanged multiple breaks before Carlitos took the tiebreak. In the second set, a break in the opening game was enough to seal the deal for the four-time major champion.

By reaching the Monte Carlo Masters final, Alcaraz reached his seventh Masters-1000 title clash before turning 22 – only behind Rafael Nadal (15) and Novak Djokovic (9). Already a veteran on the circuit now, the four-time major champion has a supremely bright future ahead of him. Additionally, Carlos is now 16-1 on clay courts since winning Roland Garros in 2024.

Result: Carlos Alcaraz won 7-6(2) 6-4.

Italian prodigy Lorenzo Musetti is the official marathon man at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2025. The 23-year-old won three matches after dropping the opening set en route to the semifinals. Saturday was no different, as Musetti overcame a 1-6 thumping in Set-1 against Alex de Minaur to emerge victorious.

Musetti found no rhythm whatsoever as the match kicked off. The Australian took the attack to the Olympic bronze medalist, preventing him from holding serve even once in the opener. Just as Musetti settled into the encounter, the first set was gone. However, he roared back from 3-4 down in Set-2 to win it 6-4. The decider was no different – the players traded multiple breaks before Musetti held his nerve to close out the match.

An abysmal first serve percentage of 52% sealed the fate for de Minaur – he never managed to put the Italian in tricky positions. As a result, the points began to get extended which played into the hands of the single-handed backhand specialist. After battling for over two hours, Musetti served for the match at 5-4 but got broken again. Yet, he won the tiebreaker and ensured that he was one win away from breaking into the ATP Top-10.

Result: Lorenzo Musetti won 1-6 6-4 7-6(4).

The ATP Monte Carlo Masters final between Carlos Alcaraz and Lorenzo Musetti will begin at 12 noon local time on Sunday.
