PSG 3–1 Aston Villa – Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué, Nuno Mendes Shine in the Champions League Clash

Mayur Dedwal

Luis Enrique registered his 11th win against Unai Emery.

In what was Luis Enrique’s 100th game as the PSG manager against Aston Villa, his players stepped to the occasion. The Ligue 1 Champions has taken what can be called one step in to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.

It was an elegant football display with some individual brilliance by Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nuno Mendes that helped PSG clinch a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa. Unai Emery’s side after opening the scoring at the 35th minute was quickly pushed into the corner by the French side.

PSG was quick to equalise as the 19-year-old Desire Doue’s curler from outside the box. The youngster now has five goal contributions in the competition. Enrique’s side never stopped knocking after the goal taking it up a notch in the second half.

Kvicha Kvarskhelia Scored a Goal to Remember

PSG took the lead four minutes into the second half as the Georgian International Kvaraskhelia dribbled past Villa defenders to finish a brilliant solo goal. The 24-year-old was laser sharp all evening completing 94% of passes and creating five big chances. Kvaratskhelia for his performance was presented with the Player of the Match trophy at full-time.

In what was looking like a fair result for Aston Villa at 2-1 in the final quarter, PSG had some different ideas. Just around the final whistle time, Ousmane Dembele managed to slip a through ball to Nuno Mendes. The Portuguese fullback finished the third goal like a striker sending Emi Martinez and the centre-back to the ground before launching it into the net.

Mendes collected and assist and a goal at the end of the match. PSG will take a two goal advantage to Villa Park next week. Emery’s side will have a mountain to climb if they are to turn the tides. Aston Villa who was seen defending for the most half will look to start in commanding fashion in the secong leg.

Enrique registered his 70th win in 100 games as the PSG manager against Aston Villa. After winning the Ligue 1 without losing a game earlier this week, a win today could be the perfect cherry on the icing. Moreover, he also won his 11th game against Emery as he keeps dominating the head-to-head record.

Thanks to three brilliant solo goals, PSG will have enough cushion to be called favourites to win this matchup in the second leg. Aston Villa will host The Parisians on Tuesday, April 15. It will be an end-to-end game with guaranteed drama given Aston Villa’s unbeaten stream in England.
