Micah Parsons Responds to Jerry Jones Comments Indicating Agent Bypass During Contract Negotiations

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a terrible season having missed the playoffs altogether in 2024. Prior to the start of last year’s season, the Cowboys worked out deals with both quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb after negotiations went the distance. Waiting in the wings is another star player on the defensive side of the ball, defensive end Micah Parsons.

Parsons is right at the top of a list of the best pass rushers in the game today so it will not be a surprise to see him cash in while signing his new contract. Players of his level and position have been resetting the market and as per reports, the Cowboys seem prepared to make him the highest-earning non-QB in the league.

Jerry Jones on Parsons Contract Negotiations

While speaking with the media during the NFL’s annual league meeting of the owners, Jones hinted that contract negotiations with Parsons have been underway. Jones mentioned that he has spoken directly with the player, while going on to mention that it is about the player and whether or not he has the health and ability to do what he is being paid to do and the contract has nothing to do with an agent.

“The player does, does he have good enough health? Does he have enough skill to do what you’re paying him the money for? The agent is not a factor here and I don’t know his name and so my point is that I’m not trying to demean him in any way but this isn’t about an agent. The agent doesn’t have one thing to do with what we’re doing…when we get on a football field against a team, Micah does.”

The clip has gone viral over the internet and many have voiced their opinions calling out the Cowboys owner for being disrespectful. Jones would go on to add that he prefers to have one-on-one discussions with his players and in this case, he is doing just that. Ultimately, it is between him (Jones) who is signing the check, and Parsons who has to agree to it. That is the most straightforward way of doing things.

Parsons responds to Jerry Jones’ comments, defends his agent David Mulugheta

Adding to the controversial statement put out by Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, Parsons took to his X account where he posted a message backing his agent David Mulugheta. The star defensive end communicated that he would not sign any deal without the consent of his agent whom he hired for his professional expertise in this matter while also adding he has complete trust in Mulugheta regarding his contract negotiations.

Mulugheta is a well-known and respected agent in the sporting world who has several superstars as his clients apart from the Cowboys defender. Some of his biggest clients are Deshaun Watson, Budda Baker, Jalen Ramsey, Jordan Love, Michael Thomas, and more.

While it is difficult to say exactly what is happening behind closed doors, one thing is for certain, Parsons and Jones seem to be on two different pages as far as the negotiations are concerned.
