Dodgers Stay Perfect Behind Mookie Betts’ Hot Bat

Dodgers are still undefeated and Mookie Betts is leading from the front

If the threat of a magic, powerful, scary lineup coming on the back of a World Series win, following another successful offseason wasn’t enough, the Los Angeles Dodgers have gone on to win their first seven games of the season, tying the 1933 New York Yankees of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig for the best start to a season for a reigning champion.

And a comparison to the 1933 Yankees with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig is only fitting. Shohei Ohtani. Mookie Betts. Freddie Freeman. Just a few of the terrifying names in this lineup. And Freeman hasn’t even played all the games (just three, actually), while Betts missed the Tokyo Series and was recovering from norovirus, losing a lot of weight. Now, he’s on a dream run, leading this lineup from the front. And then there’s Shohei Ohtani. Shohei is Shohei.

From Tokyo to LA, the first seven games of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2025 season have spanned two continents, featured matchups against two reigning Cy Young Award winners, and included two elaborate pregame ceremonies. None of it has slowed them down.

On Tuesday night, they added another chapter to their dominant start, rallying from behind to defeat the struggling Atlanta Braves 3-1 and improve to 7-0. Only two Dodgers teams have ever begun a season with a longer winning streak, and both instances in 1940 and 1955, date back to their Brooklyn days.

Tuesday’s win was fueled by two key elements: the return of Dustin May and the continued brilliance of Mookie Betts.

May, making his first start in nearly two years after undergoing elbow surgery, looked sharp, allowing just one unearned run, scored after Betts misfired on a double-play attempt, over five solid innings. It was a promising return for a pitcher the Dodgers hope can be a major factor in their rotation.

Betts, meanwhile, once again delivered in the clutch. For the third time this season, he hit a go-ahead home run, this time a two-run blast in the sixth inning that flipped a 1-0 deficit into a lead the Dodgers would never relinquish. He now has three home runs and six RBIs in his first four games, all while recovering from an illness that saw him drop nearly 18 pounds.

Last Friday, he crushed two home runs, including a walk-off in the 10th inning. Now, just a few days later, he’s continued his torrid stretch, raising his batting average to .375 with an OPS of .898. After dipping as low as 157 pounds due to illness, he’s climbed back up to 167 and inching closer to his usual 175.

Through all the obstacles, illness, injuries, and cross-continental travel, the Dodgers haven’t just survived. They’ve thrived. 7-0 already. How many more can they add to this streak?
