Memphis Grizzlies have a high possibility to qualify for the playoffs but their seeding might be changed.
With six more games to go in the regular season, the Memphis Grizzlies found themselves in a tough situation for the playoffs. The Grizzlies have the hardest schedule and they also sacked their coach Taylor Jenkins just before the postseason. The firing of the head coach midseason could hamper the Grizzlies’ chances for the playoffs. Currently, they are 6th in the Western Conference and might feature in a play-in tournament. They already offered a tiebreaker to the Warriors and things will be tougher from here.
The Grizzlies’ new offensive system triggered an alarming sign ahead of the playoffs. Their half-court offense efficiency has gone below average and the fire is missing. Memphis also fired Jenkins’ coaching staff which can affect the momentum of the team. Memphis had delivered over the Jenkins era and dominated the possession game. However, the franchise has pressed the panic button when the hectic schedule is lined up.

OKC Thunder already clinched the top seed in the Western Conference. The Rockets and the Nuggets are fighting for the No. 2 spot. Houston went 9-1 in the last ten to take the second spot but Denver can challenge them. The Grizzlies (44-32) are currently tied with the Timberwolves for sixth spot and both are struggling to retain consistency.
The current form of the Grizzlies and the Lakers gives a certain edge to the Clippers and the Warriors. Both sides are tied for the sixth spot. Memphis will face a team like the Nuggets in the remaining sprint and its current form is a major concern. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies will take the hardest route for the playoffs.
Ja Morant, the key asset of the Grizzlies, missed 30 games this season but they are still keeping their head high in offense. Memphis are sixth in offensive efficiency and fourth in point differential. Since the All-Star break, Memphis ranked 19th in defense and have gone 5-5 in their last ten games.
As we mentioned earlier, Memphis will take on the toughest opponents in their nine-game sprint. The Grizzlies have gone 11-20 against above-.500 teams, and are 9-18 against the other nine teams in the Western Conference’s top 10.
Memphis Grizzlies have a high possibility to qualify for the playoffs but their seeding might be changed. If they go with a current struggle in offense, they can even fall to seventh in the West. If Memphis lands on the sixth seed, as the standings currently are, they might face the Nuggets, who would be the toughest opponent in playoffs.
If they finish as the 7th seed, they again make a potential matchup with the Timberwolves in the Play-In tournament. Even, the Grizzlies can face the Thunder if they get the eighth playoff seed. If they get the No. 7 seed after the Play-In tournament, one of the Rockets or the Nuggets will meet them. The Grizzlies won’t get an easy matchup if they qualify for the playoffs.
