And then there were four! The 2025 WTA Miami Open is nearing its cessation, and it’s semifinals day on Thursday. With the top seed still around but plenty of giant killers lurking, the trophy is still very much up for grabs. Who is going to win this race to the finish line?

Coming into the event, American Danielle Collins was the defending champion. However, she was dumped out by Aryna Sabalenka – the reigning World No. 1 and force of nature. Everyone who was hoping for a ‘Sabatek’ final was left dejected on quarterfinals day, as Filipino breakout sensation Alexandra Eala took out a Grand Slam champ for the third consecutive match.

Although three out of the top eight seeds still remain in the draw, there is no doubt that it has been a tournament of upsets. Here’s all you need to know about the women’s semifinals at the 2025 Miami Open.

The women’s semifinals at the 2025 Miami Open are scheduled for Thursday 27 March 2025. Meanwhile, the final will be played on Saturday. While the top seed will be the first to enter Stadium Court, she will be followed by the home favourite. The match-ups are as follows:

Aryna Sabalenka vs Jasmine Paolini

Attempting to make a statement after her heartbreaking loss to Mirra Andreeva in the Indian Wells final, Aryna Sabalenka has outdone herself. Winning all her matches in straight sets, including tricky encounters against former Australian Open finalists Danielle Collins and Zheng Qinwen, she has raced into the last four.

There was not much talk about Jasmine Paolini ahead of the Miami Open. A retirement from Ons Jabeur, followed by a narrow victory against Naomi Osaka saw her enter the quarterfinals. Here, she beat Coco Gauff’s conqueror in Magda Linette to book a match-up against the three-time major winner.

Jessica Pegula vs Alexandra Eala

With all of America’s hopes resting on her shoulders, No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula is the last candidate standing to retain the trophy at home. With Briton Emma Raducanu having beaten three Americans on the trot, Pegula avoided becoming the fourth – winning 6-4 6-7(3) 6-2 to move into the next round.

The story of Alexandra Eala is one that will be told to grandchildren a few generations from now. The only Filipino in the Top-500 of either section, the Rafa Nadal Academy graduate has beaten Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek en route to the final four. At the age of 19, southpaw Eala has now equalled the best result by a wildcard since the inception of the Miami Open.
