Kevin De Bruyne to MLS? San Diego’s Sporting Director Hints Talks with Man City Star

Mayur Dedwal

Kevin De Bruyne might look for a new home at the end of the season.

Kevin De Bruyne’s rumours of exit from Manchester City have been sparking all season. After being linked to clubs in Saudi Arabia, a sporting director from MLS might have hinted at holding talks with the Belgian.

After a Manchester City topsy-turvy season, De Bruyne’s five-year contract will come to an end this summer. With no negotiation talks being held as of now, the 33-year-old might be looking for a new home at the end of the season.

MLS side San Diego has started this the mid-way this season. However, being eager to bring in recruitment this season, their sporting director Tyler Heapes has high hopes for his club.

Addressing his recent agenda and the transfer rumours of De Bruyne, Heapes told The Sun:

“Those rumours, I don’t know where they come from. I talked to the agent.

“The agent has many players.

“Every time I see it, I say, ‘Are you the one that is saying all this stuff?’

“He’s a fantastic footballer and he loves this area.”

Speaking about the City captain, Heaps shared details of his conversation with the player’s agent. Addressing the wage demands, he said:

“I’ve had conversations with him, but I’ll tell you what, those wages won’t fit our budget at the moment in terms of what his expectations are.”

The Belgian midfielder currently earns around £400,000 per week ($561k) as per Capology. Matching these numbers would be a heavy task compared to what players earn in the MLS.

Inter Miami star Lionel Messi earns £178,622 per week while Lorenzo Insigne, Sergio Busquets and Xherdan Shaqiri follow him with slightly lower numbers. De Bruyne might be in for a pay cut given these numbers should he choose hose to join the MLS side. However, with links like Real Madrid or Saudi Arabia willing to fulfill these wages, it could be a far-fetched situation.

Struggling with injuries, De Bruyne has started only 12 Premier League games for Pep Guardiola this season. Moreover, discussions about his potential replacement have emerged, with Florian Wirtz considered a favorite.

Given his record and abilities, clubs all over the world would be keen to sign him. The six-time Premier League winner will be in for a huge farewell should he part ways with Manchester City at the end of the season.
