Scotland To Face Greece in UEFA Nations League Play-Off As They Aim for a Spot in the 2026 Tournament’s Top Tier.

In a tough group – League A Group 1 – with Portugal, Croatia, and Poland, Scotland ended the Nations League group stage in third place. As a result, now they will be playing Greece in a two-legged playoff scheduled in March. A win in this face-off will see Scotland secure a spot in the 2026 Nations League top tier.

Scotland managed to win two, draw one, and lose three of their Nations League group-stage matches. They managed to pull off those two wins against Robert Lewandowski and Co. at Poland and Luka Modric and Co. at Croatia who played that match with 10 men. Their only draw came against Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. at Portugal.

Considering how tough they had in the group, they ended in third place which should give them enough confidence for the upcoming clashes. Even with missing players with injuries and the inclusion of key players, like Kieran Tierney, Scott McTominay, and more, coach Steve Clarke will look to win both matches.

Scotland Team News

Head coach Steve Clarke has named his 23-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League Play-Off against Greece. The squad features first-time call-ups for 18-year-olds Lennon Miller and James Wilson.

Additionally, as a first for the Ipswich Town forward George Hirst, he will be representing his grandfather’s nation Scotland. He has received the clearance and is joining the team. Hirst played for England at youth level.

Scotland will also get a boost as the Arsenal star Kieran Tierney, who has been absent since the European Championships returns to the squad. Lewis Ferguson, who missed the tournament with an injury has made a return as well.

Greece narrowly missed an automatic promotion as England topped their group. Hence, they’re going to be a tough opponent. However, Scotland will aim to build on their dramatic qualification to the playoffs after pulling off a good win against Poland in their last hand of the group stage.
