The 61-year-old categorized Jayson Tatum as a "star" rather than a superstar figure in the NBA.
Colin Cowherd is surely not a fan of Jayson Tatum, as he delivers a harsh opinion on the Boston Celtics superstar. The 61-year-old reacted following Tatum’s admission on the “Face of the NBA” conversation. He feels underrepresented for the face of the league.
Cowherd spoke about Tatum’s stardom and said, “He’s not in the same zip code as cool.”
“You can close your eyes and there’s images with stars,” he added. “Close your eyes now and do it with Tatum. I don’t see anything! 26 a night. I don’t see anything.”

Colin Cowherd made a controversial remark about Tatum and dismissed him as a true superstar. Cowherd is not putting Tatum in the elite club of LeBron James, Stephen Curry or Kevin Durant.
“I’m just saying he’s not in that class, and all the numbers prove it. And by the way, you know who else proves it? Shoe companies. LeBron, Steph, KD, and Ja Morant have their own brand. Tatum doesn’t. He’s got a shoe under Michael’s brand.”

The 61-year-old categorized Jayson Tatum as a “star” rather than a superstar figure in the NBA. Cowherd also gave a nickname to Tatum and called him “The Password” for being forgettable.
“So what did the Olympics prove? He shrinks against great players around him. Eastern Conference Finals— what did it prove? What does production data prove when he doesn’t play? I’m not saying he’s not a star. The NBA, at any one time, has two superstars, maybe three, and then about 12 stars.”
“I’m just saying he’s not in the three— he’s in the 12. And people are outraged by it. This all started with a ‘face of the league’ discussion, and in terms of that, he’s more Tim Duncan— efficient, productive, good guy, excellent player, can win you championships— but there’s not a lot of aura there, not a lot of personality.”
Cowherd shared his opinion on the Boston Celtics’ form in the regular season. He got a chance to belittle Tatum once again. He credited other players in the Celtics’ win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
“I look at the Celtics as a great team,” he said on Thursday morning. “And he’s their most versatile, talented player. But he’s not always their best player, and I’m not even sure if he’s their lead alpha, I think Jaylen Brown is. Last night’s a great example. Three Celtics were out. Jrue Holiday, Porzingis, and Jayson Tatum. Payton Pritchard scored 43 and Derrick White scored 41. That’s what makes the Celtics great.”

“It’s not Tatum,” he continued. “It’s the team.”
Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum dropped 40 points in the Celtics’ 111-100 win over the Lakers. Boston is now improved to 46-18 through 64 games this season. Cowherd might deny the impact of Tatum in Boston, but he is the vital figure in the lineup.
