Mavericks hit with another injury as young forward requires season-ending surgery

The 2023 first-round pick has been diagnosed with ligament damage.

The Dallas Mavericks’ nightmare season takes a dark turn as their young forward joins the lengthy injury list, including Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis. Olivier-Maxence Prosper is likely to require season-ending surgery on his injured right wrist.

NBA insider Shams Charania reported that the 2023 first-round pick has been diagnosed with ligament damage. Prosper was sidelined from the Mavs’ Friday matchup against the Grizzlies.

Mavs’ nightmare season continues with another injury blow

Prosper is averaging 5.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 16.3 minutes over his last 24 games, including four starts. He was picked regularly in the roster due to injury issues. Apart from him, eight other players are out due to injuries.

The 22-year-old forward played 25 minutes against the Bucks on Wednesday and scored nine points, two rebounds and two assists. He remains a crucial player for the Mavs in the reserving role but earned four starts in the last two months.

“We’re just taking it day-by-day and trying to get healthy,” Head Coach Jason Kidd spoke about injuries during a pregame press conference Friday. “Continue to put our best foot forward to compete and try to win. Right now, we have 19 games left — we’re just focused on the Memphis Grizzlies right now. As we go forward, hopefully we continue to get, you know, positive news.”

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are monitoring the recovery process of Anthony Davis. As per reports, his left adductor strain is improving daily, and he “has therefore been cleared for more dynamic on-court movements.”

Dallas Mavericks suffered a 111-122 defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday and fell to 32-32. They are on the verge of going below .500 in the West. With the injured roster, Jason Kidd’s side is unlikely to reach playoffs.
