The New York Knicks faced a double setback on their trip to Los Angeles as their star player, Jalen Brunson, suffered an injury during the 113-109 defeat to the Lakers. The star point guard limped off the court in overtime following an ankle sprain.

Brunson turned his right ankle badly with 1:24 remaining in overtime. He landed awkwardly on a drive to the basket. However, the 28-year-old guard remained on the court and attempted his two free throws.

As we can see in the footage, Brunson was unable to walk. New York had had to immediately foul LeBron James so that the captain could exit the game and head straight to the locker room. He was struggling to make a movement and his injury could be serious.

Dr. Evan Jeffries, NBA Injury Insider, decoded Jalen Brunson’s injury. According to him, an X-ray will be needed to rule out a fracture, and an MRI will determine the severity of the ankle sprain. The timeline of healing will be based on severity. As per Shams Charaia, Jalen Brunson is expected to miss at least two weeks with a right ankle sprain.

Before leaving the game in overtime, Brunson scored 39 points, 10 assists and four rebounds. The point-guard is averaging 26.1 points, 3 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game in the regular season on 49% shooting from the floor. His role is crucial for the Knicks (40-22) in their pursuit of the NBA championship.
