Several major trades have already shaken up the league well before the deadline. The Colorado Avalanche made headlines by dealing Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes, a bold move aimed at reshaping their roster. Not waiting until the last minute, the Rangers began their rebuild early, shipping out Jacob Trouba and former second-overall pick Kaapo Kakko before making a major move for J.T. Miller. The Bruins also got a head start on retooling, sending Trent Frederic packing earlier this week. And Carolina, learning from past mistakes, acquired Rantanen as an unrestricted free agent without an extension but quickly offered him a contract over the 4 Nations break. While he hasn’t signed yet, the Canes are confident in keeping him long-term.
