Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome has been fined for public criticism of the officiating during his team’s 133-129 victory against the Trail Blazers on March 2. The NBA announced a $25,000 fine Monday after Jerome’s remark at officials.

Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations, released a statement: “Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome has been fined $25,000 for public criticism of the officiating. Jerome made his comments to the media following the Cavaliers’ 133-129 overtime victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on March 2 at Rocket Arena.”

The 27-year-old guard is on a two-year, $5 million deal with the Cavaliers, so that $25K fine won’t impact him financially. However, the NBA again showed its strict behavior towards players who are negative against the officials. This is not the first time the league issued a fine involving the criticism of officials.

Jerome finished with 25 points, six assists, six steals, and five rebounds on 8-of-17 shooting from the field against the Trail Blazers. It was a tough assignment for the Cavs, and the match went into overtime. However, the NBA leaders held their nerves to secure their 50th win of the season.

Jerome is averaging 12 points, 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game after 56 appearances while shooting 51.6% from the field, including 44.9% from beyond the arc. His brilliance in offense helped the Cavaliers to post a 50-10 record in the season and take the top spot of the Eastern Conference standings.
