Canadiens’ Patrik Laine expected to be out for 2 to 3 months with knee injury

When Montreal Canadiens’ winger Patrik Laine exited early in Saturday’s preseason game following a knee-on-knee collision with Maple Leafs forward Cédric Paré, many fans thought his season was over. However, the recent reports provide some relief for both Laine and the Canadiens.

The Montreal team took to social media to reveal the extent of Laine’s injury and confirmed that the star winger will not require surgery. However, the 26-year-old forward will be sidelined for at least 2 months.

“Forward Patrik Laine sustained a sprain to his left knee that will not require surgery. His rehabilitation period is expected to be from two to three months”, Montreal Canadiens said in a statement.

Laine suffered the injury during the Canadiens’ 2-1 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs after a horrific knee-on-knee collision with forward Cedric Pare.

This setback for Laine comes at a critical time. After a disappointing finish last season, the 26-year-old was seen as a key piece for the Canadiens’ offense. While his absence creates a hole in the lineup, the team would be relieved to know that his season is not over yet.

Laine was traded to the Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Jordan Harris in August.

He was picked second overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2016 NHL Draft.

“92 will be back” – Patrik Laine thanks fans for support

Soon after the team’s announcement, Laine took to Instagram to thank his fans and supporters for good wishes. The star forward also reassured his fans, stating that he will be back soon.

“92 will be back”, Laine posted on his Instagram story.

The Montreal Canadiens will begin their 2024-25 NHL season with a game against the Maple Leafs on October 9.
