Alvin Kamara, Saints agree to 2-year, $24.5 million extension

The Saints secure their future with Kamara, extending his contract for two more years at $24.5M, ensuring he stays with the team until 2026.

The New Orleans Saints and Alvin Kamara have come to terms on a two-year, $24.5 million contract extension, locking him in with the team through 2026.

Announced on Tuesday night, this extension follows a period of unrest during training camp, where Kamara voiced concerns about his contract. However, he chose not to hold out and continued playing.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the contract guarantees Kamara over $22 million and includes $1.5 million in incentives, potentially raising the deal’s total to $26 million.

The 29-year-old Kamara remains with the Saints through 2026

Drafted by New Orleans in the third round of 2017, Kamara has spent his entire career with the team. He has openly shared his desire to retire as a Saint, and this new contract extension might just make that possible.

The Saints, however, have faced a tough stretch recently. They’ve dropped five consecutive games, with starting quarterback Derek Carr sidelined for the last two due to an oblique injury. Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed also saw his season cut short after being placed on injured reserve last week.

Through it all, Kamara has been a consistent force for the Saints. This season, he leads the team with 111 carries, gaining 438 rushing yards and scoring seven touchdowns. He also adds 34 receptions, ranking third in receiving yards with 252 yards through the air.

Earlier this season, Tom Brady named Kamara as his LFG Player of the Game for Week 2, where Kamara dominated the Dallas Cowboys with four touchdowns and a total of 180 yards.

Kamara currently leads the NFL in touches with 145. The five-time Pro Bowler has surpassed 1,100 scrimmage yards in each of his first seven seasons, and he’s already on track to hit that mark again, with 690 scrimmage yards in just seven games this year.
