Super Bowl LIX is here and the matchup is between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Both of these teams have something further to accomplish. The Chiefs are trying to three-peat which has never been done. Whereas the Eagles are looking to win their second championship in their franchise history. We’ll see some elite quarterback play between Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes, which has the fans and media excited for what’s to come.

Talking about the Super Bowl, it is one of the biggest Sports event across the world. Every year we see two teams compete to their maximum potential and determine who’s the winner. We also see various celebrities come and perform in the Halftime show. Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, Dr.Dre, Eminem, have come and performed. This garners huge viewership numbers and the Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event in America.

This year’s Super Bowl LIX, will take place in Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana. This is also the same venue where Super Bowl XLVII also took place. The Baltimore Ravens played the San Francisco 49ers and the Ravens took home the Lombardi Trophy. However, there was a slight hiccup during the game as the lights went out for 34 minutes! Let’s find out what happened exactly.

What happened in Super Bowl XLVII?

Super Bowl XLVII had a lot of memorable moments. Colin Kaepernick was the star QB playing for the 49ers. We had Beyonce and the Destiny’s Child perform in the halftime show. However, in a major event like the Super Bowl, we hardly expect for the light to go out for 30 plus minutes but that was the case 12 years ago.

As Jacoby Jones of the Ravens had returned a kickoff and the 49ers had just started their offense, the lights went out and the game was delayed by 34 minutes.

Why did the lights go out in Super Bowl XLVII?

The blackout was blamed on the relay device that had been installed to prevent any sort of power failure. However, when the blackout happened nobody had any idea on what the problem was. You can see the players, fans, coaches, and everybody else that was on the field, completely confused. There are also reports that during a test run of Beyonce’s halftime show, there was power fluctuations.

Despite all the problems prior, the NFL and its crew were sure that there would be no problems going forward. There have been numerous Super Bowls through out history and 12 more Super Bowls after the blackout. However, we had never seen a power outage before or even after Super Bowl XLVII.

Will a blackout happen again in Super Bowl LIX?

This is around, a blackout should not happen but you never know. Entergy, the electric company that powers the Superdome arena says that there are a lot of backups this time around. Even if the power goes out, the backups should do the trick. We all hope that is the case as another power outage would, quiet frankly, bring shame to the NFL.
