The left-hander spent the last two seasons in San Francisco.

The Cincinnati Reds acquired left-handed reliever Taylor Rogers and cash from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for prospect Braxton Roxby, the teams announced on Wednesday, January 29.

The amount of cash sent along with Rogers was not disclosed. The money will be used to cover part of the pitcher’s contract. The Ohio team placed Owen White on waivers to open a spot for Rogers on the 40-man roster.

The 34-year-old veteran posted a 2.40 ERA last season and has appeared in at least 60 games in each of the past three seasons. Over his career, Rogers has been very effective against left-handed batters, limiting them to a .544 OPS over nine seasons.

The addition of the veteran brings more flexibility to the Reds’ bullpen. He is expected to work in late-game situations, alongside Emilio Pagan and Alexis Diaz, who both had struggles last season.

Meanwhile, Roxby is a right-handed reliever who has never pitched in the majors and was not ranked among the Reds’ top 30 prospects according to Baseball America. The 25-year-old posted a 5.21 ERA in 39 games at Double-A in 2024, allowing only two home runs and striking out 65 batters in 48.1 innings.
