Bayless calls out NFL favoritism for Chiefs over Taylor Swift effect.
Skip Bayless has once again stirred controversy, claiming the NFL prioritizes Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs over fairness, all in the name of Taylor Swift’s star power. On his podcast, Bayless criticized the league, alleging favoritism in officiating to ensure the Chiefs’ path to the Super Bowl remains intact.
Bayless didn’t hold back, claiming the NFL wants Swift’s presence at the Super Bowl to drive ratings. He said, “The memo will go out, just as it did last week, ‘make sure Taylor Swift makes it to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.’ Without her, the NFL loses millions and millions of viewers who will tune in, mostly to see what she’s wearing up in that Superdome luxury box.”

According to Bayless, the referees were part of the agenda during Kansas City’s win against the Houston Texans. He highlighted specific calls, such as roughing the passer and unnecessary roughness penalties, that extended Chiefs’ drives. “So Mahomes, teetering though he might, must be propped up. Must be protected by the referees, just the way he was Saturday, at home against the Texans,” Bayless said.
Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce and her appearances at Chiefs games have significantly boosted NFL viewership. During her 2023 appearances, NBC reported a 53% spike in ratings for a Sunday Night Football game between the Chiefs and Jets. Among women aged 18-24, viewership rose 24%, and for women over 35, ratings increased by 34%.
Bayless attributed the league’s alleged favoritism to this ratings surge, saying, “This is the Taylor Swift effect. She is a one-woman ratings juggernaut. Protect her! Prop her up! Award her boyfriend’s team with phantom penalties. Get them to New Orleans! The NFL needs the Swifties.”
Taylor Swift has been a constant figure at Chiefs games since her relationship with Kelce began in 2023. Her presence last season coincided with Kansas City’s Super Bowl victory, further fueling speculation about her influence. This year, despite her Eras Tour limiting appearances, her name remains tied to the Chiefs’ postseason run.
WAIT, CAITLIN CLARK IS UP IN THE ARROWHEAD BOX WITH TAYLOR SWIFT??? CAITLIN, YOU DON'T NEED TO BE SEEN WITH HER. YOU'RE BIGGER THAN SHE IS. JUST STAY ON YOUR OWN PATH.

Bayless remains skeptical of the league’s integrity, alleging the Chiefs’ upcoming game against the Bills is already skewed in their favor. He implied the NFL’s focus isn’t on fairness but on capitalizing on Swift’s celebrity appeal.
Kelce, now 35, has faced challenges this season, recording his lowest receiving yards and touchdowns since becoming a starter in 2014. However, his performance against the Texans, where he logged seven catches for 117 yards and a touchdown, suggests he’s still a key weapon for the Chiefs.
As Kansas City prepares to face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship, Bayless’ claims add another layer of controversy. Whether his allegations hold weight or are mere speculation, they reflect the intersection of sports, celebrity, and ratings that has dominated this NFL season.

I write about sports because, well, it brings in the big bucks! I’m not some lifelong analyst or stats guru, truth being told, you’ve probably never heard of me!—I just know how to research, write, and make things sound good. That’s the job!
Got into sports media the same way most people do: by (fortunate) accident. Started with SEO writing, took on a few sports gigs, and now here we are! I cover games, trades, player drama—whatever needs words.
Favorite part? The chaos. One day it’s a blockbuster trade, the next it’s a goat running onto the field. Never boring.
