Deion Sanders: Future Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys?

Mike McCarthy out, Deion Sanders' name came out once again

Could Deion Sanders become the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for the 2025 season?

Reports suggest the franchise is seriously considering the former NFL star to fill the role recently vacated by Mike McCarthy.

According to multiple sources, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has initiated discussions with Sanders, currently the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, about taking over the reins of the team.

A Familiar Face for Dallas

Deion Sanders is no stranger to the Dallas Cowboys. The legendary athlete spent five seasons with the franchise, including their Super Bowl-winning 1995 campaign.

Now a successful college football coach and father of Shedeur Sanders—expected to be a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft—Sanders would be making a nostalgic “homecoming” if he were to take on the head coaching role, much like Mike Vrabel did with the New England Patriots.

Challenges to the Move

Despite the intriguing storyline, a reunion between Sanders and the Cowboys seems unlikely. The University of Colorado would require an $8 million buyout for Sanders to leave his current role, following a strong season with an 8-4 record.

Historically, Jerry Jones has been hesitant to pay such steep buyout clauses, making the potential hire a significant financial hurdle for the Cowboys.

Would Sanders be worth the gamble? Only time will tell.
