NFL Rumors (01/03): Tyreek Hill thinking about a return to the Chiefs?

A few hours before the end of the 2024 regular season, NFL rumors are beginning to flourish everywhere.

The end of the regular season inevitably brings NFL rumors!

Whether through subtle messages from player agents, tidbits shared by coaches, or cryptic comments from players, NFL speculation is in full swing this January. Let’s take a look at the latest buzz for Friday, January 3rd!

Tyreek Hill’s Cryptic Message

It’s not uncommon to send New Year’s greetings as the calendar turns, and Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill followed suit. The speedy wideout from the Florida franchise shared a brief yet intriguing message: “Happy New Year, especially to the Chiefs!”

This message could be interpreted in two very different ways.

1. Well Wishes to Former Teammates

Hill may simply be wishing a happy New Year to his former Kansas City Chiefs teammates, who play a pivotal role in the Dolphins’ playoff hopes. Miami needs a Broncos victory (and thus a Chiefs loss) to secure their postseason ticket.

2. A Hint at a Potential Reunion

Alternatively, Hill might be signaling interest in rejoining his former team and Patrick Mahomes in the near future. However, a return might not be entirely logical, given the emergence of Xavier Worthy, whose skill set mirrors Hill’s, as a key player for the Chiefs.

Jon Gruden: A Return to the NFL?

Could Jon Gruden make a comeback in the NFL? With an offseason expected to be rife with coaching changes—including current vacancies (Saints, Jets, etc.) and others likely to open on Black Monday—Tom Pelissero reports that Gruden might seize the opportunity.

Gruden, the controversial former coach of the Las Vegas Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2021. He left the Raiders mid-season following the release of emails containing homophobic and misogynistic remarks. The question remains: Which franchise would be bold enough to hire Gruden ahead of the 2025 season?

Davante Adams: An Early End with the Jets?

It seems Davante Adams’ tenure with the New York Jets could be short-lived. With Aaron Rodgers’ future uncertain—whether he’ll continue his career or do so with the Jets—the franchise might choose to move on from both the veteran quarterback and the receiver acquired mid-season.

The destinies of Rodgers and Adams are undeniably intertwined, extending beyond mere rumor. Adams has been clear that he joined the Jets to play alongside his former Green Bay Packers teammate. Should Rodgers depart, it’s likely Adams will follow in a domino effect.

Unlike Rodgers, however, Adams is expected to seek opportunities with another team, potentially extending his career for several more seasons.

Nick Sirianni Under Pressure?

Things appear to be going well for Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2024 NFL season. With the team finishing second in the NFC conference, the Eagles will host a playoff game in the first round. However, this game could prove pivotal for Sirianni’s future as head coach.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Sirianni’s job might be in jeopardy if the Eagles face another early playoff exit. While he’s not currently the most endangered coach, failing to advance beyond the first round could shorten his tenure in Philadelphia. After all, regular-season success is good, but winning a Super Bowl is the ultimate goal.

In preparation, Sirianni has chosen to rest his starters in Week 18, aiming to improve their playoff performance—and, by extension, his chances of staying at the helm for at least another season.
