2025 WNBA MVP Race: A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier and Alyssa Thomas Lead Season’s Defining Showdown

The 2025 WNBA MVP race is heating up with the post-season on the horizon. Players have put up brilliant performances through the regular season, but only three candidates emerge with strong cases for the Most Valuable Player award.

Napheesa Collier, A’ja Wilson, and Alyssa Thomas have been in a league of their own this season. Collier’s league‐leading scoring and historic shooting efficiency have rewritten record books, while Wilson’s midseason heroics propelled Aces from a 9–11 form to title contention. With the playoff race heating up, MVP voters will scrutinize every performance through the season’s final stretch.

Napheesa Collier stands at the top of the scoring leader board at 23.9 points per game. No player before her has surpassed 250 points on 50/40/90 shooting through the first ten games. This means she makes at least half her shots overall, 40% from three and 90 from the FT.

The 28-year-old’s combination of volume and elite efficiency distinguishes her scoring prowess. Collier also averages 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks, showing up on both ends of the floor. In her first game back from an injury break, she scored 32 points against the Fever, continuing from where she left.

Wilson, and Thomas’ Surge

A’ja Wilson’s case rests on a midseason turnaround. In early July, the Las Vegas Aces were 9-11 and outside the playoffs picture. Since then, they have gone 17-3, thanks largely to Wilson’s scoring surge. She has averaged 25.4 points over that stretch, lifting Vegas into second place and sparking a 12-game winning streak.

Wilson has also tied her own WNBA record with six triple-doubles this season. This shows she can rebound, and pass, as well as score. Her mix of scoring, passing, and rebounding makes her a top MVP contender.

Meanwhile, Alyssa Thomas brings a different element to the conversation, offering unmatched all-around versatility on the floor. She’s also recorded six triple-doubles, filling up the state sheet with points, rebounds, and assists. Her work in tight spaces has swung several close games in Mercury’s favor. Thomas doesn’t score as much as Collier or Wilson, but her consistency across every category keeps her in the 2025 WNBA MVP conversation.

When you weigh these cases, it breaks down to two main things: individual numbers and team success. Collier has the best scoring average and Minnesota has the best record in the league. A’ja Wilson has the impressive midseason leap and leads in assists, pushing Las Vegas into title contention.
