2025 WNBA Championship Odds: Phoenix Mercury Emerge New Favorites to win 2025 WNBA Title After Knocking Minnesota Lynx Out of Playoffs

The Phoenix Mercury have replaced the Las Vegas Aces as the favorites to clinch the 2025 WNBA Championship as per the latest odds. The Mercury handed the Minnesota Lynx an 86-81 victory in Game 4 of the semi-finals series on Sunday, September 28. With the win, the Mercury clinched a 3-1 lead in the series, and knocked the 2024 WNBA Finalists out of the championship contention. This marks the Mercury’s first WNBA Finals appearance since 2021.

The Mercury are -115 favorites to win the championship and clinch their fourth WNBA title, as per FanDuel. Second in the line are second-seeds Las Vegas Aces with +115 odds, while the Indiana Fever are +1400 odds on FanDuel. The Aces will host the Fever in Game 5 of their semifinals series on Tuesday, September 30. The team that emerges victorious will be up against the Mercury in the best-of-seven Finals series, starting on October 3.

Phoenix Mercury Emerge Favorites Despite Being Underdogs

Notably, the Mercury had a solid rebound season in 2025, finishing with a surprising 27-17 record that secured them the fourth spot. This marked a significant improvement from their 19-21 finish in 2024, where they suffered a first-round exit. In the 2025 playoffs, they handed a 2-1 defeat to the reigning champions, New York Liberty even with less than 30% chance to make it out of the first round. In round 2, they knocked the dominating Minnesota Lynx out of the semifinals.

With this, they became the fourth team in WNBA history to eliminate both Finals teams from the previous season during the Playoffs.

The Minnesota Lynx, on the other hand, dominated the standings throughout the season. They began the campaign with nine back-to-back wins, and maintained an upper hand over their rivals to finish the season with a 34-10 win-loss record. The Napheesa Collier-led side became the first team to advance to the playoffs as well as secured the top seed.

In the postseason, they swiped the Golden State Valkyries in the opening round, becoming the only team to advance to the semifinals in just two victories. While the Lynx began round 2 on a dominating note, they dropped Games 2 and 3. While they were hopeful of making a comeback in Game 4, Napheesa Collier’s injury, followed by head coach Cheryl Reeve’s one-game suspension, crushed their hopes.
