2025 US Open Upset Alert- Daniil Medvedev’s Misfortune Continues, Loses to Benjamin Bonzi Again in Round 1 after Wimbledon 2025

Daniil Medvedev failed to decode Benjamin Bonzi again as he crashed out from the 2025 US Open with a first-round defeat to the Frenchman. Bonzi defeated the 2021 US Open champion for the second consecutive time in Grand Slam. Benjamin Bonzi survived a long battle to beat Medvedev 6-3, 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 0-6, 6-4 in the first round.

Benjamin Bonzi upsets Daniil Medvedev for Second Straight First-Round Grand Slam Match

Bonzi made a flourish start against Medvedev and won the first two sets with ease. The former US Open winner was on the verge of losing the match in straight set but he held the nerves in the third set. Meanwhile, the third set was full of drama as a photographer suddenly walked out onto the court right before Bonzi was about to serve for the match. The Frenchman stood at his end of the court but Medvedev walked up to the chair official.

After seven minutes of chaos in the set, Bonzi served again. Medvedev won three straight points to clinch the third set. Later, the photographer was spotted being walked out of the court after the third set. The Russian ace continued his dominant display and thrashed Bonzi in fourth set 6-0.

The crowd was cheering Medvedev but he couldn’t retain the consistency in the final set. Bonzi, who failed to win a single game in previous set, looked dominant and didn’t allow the 29-year-old settle. The Frenchman took the decider 6-4 and reached the second round of the Grand Slam for the second straight time.

Medvedev was looking totally distraught after his loss to Bonzi. He slammed his racquet repeatedly until it was left in pieces. He threw several racquets into the crowd before releasing his frustration. The Russian ace has lost 5 of 8 matches since the Halle final.

The 2021 US Open winner has won just a single match in the four grand slams this season, Last year, he had a quarterfinal run in the US Open and his only Slam glory came here in 2021. Bonzi will now look for a deep run in the competition and will take on Marcos Giron in the next round. The Frenchman couldn’t survive in the second round in Wimbledon when he secured an upset win over Medvedev.
