‘You’re the GOAT’ – Alexander Bublik Crowns Jannik Sinner After US Open 2025 Round of 16 Battering

Sinner will face Musetti in the last eight.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner declared to Hollywood star Rami Malek that it was “time for revenge” against Alexander Bublik on Monday. After all, the Kazakh powerhouse had outclassed him at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle earlier this year. Sinner fulfilled his promise with a statement victory – thrashing Bublik 6-1 6-1 6-1 in the US Open 2025 Round of 16. After the match, his opponent had nothing but respect and admiration for him.

Ahead of the encounter, Bublik had held serve for 55 consecutive service games. However, it didn’t take Sinner more than 3 minutes to erase this statistic from existence. Within no time, the top seed was up 4-0, and eventually grabbed the opener in the blink of an eye. The level from Sinner was masterful – he generated immaculate depth on his groundstrokes and forced Bublik into going for drops and slices from a deep court position – naturally producing short balls that were easy to dispatch.

It was more of the same in the second and third sets. While Bublik called Sinner ‘AI Generated’ before the match as a joke, the 24-year-old seemed to be taking it a tad bit too seriously. One of those nights where the Italian couldn’t miss, he left his 6’5” opponent with no answers to his ruthless attacks. Within 1 hour and 21 minutes, the four-time Grand Slam champion was back in the US Open quarterfinals. In the process, he matched his previous best in terms of fewest games lost in a Grand Slam match (6-0 6-1 6-2 vs Lehecka at Roland Garros 2025).

After being on the receiving end of a thrashing on Arthur Ashe Stadium, Bublik had nothing else to offer but words of encouragement. “That was so good,” said the 28-year-old. It has been a terrific campaign at the majors for Bublik, who achieved his career-best showing at Roland Garros and now Flushing Meadows. “I’m not bad… But you’re the GOAT!” With a long career ahead of him, it is safe to say that none of us can fully disagree just yet.

Next up for the World No. 1, will be countryman and Paris Olympics bronze medalist Lorenzo Musetti. The 23-year-old breezed past Jaume Munar in straight sets to book his spot in a maiden US Open last eight. “Italian tennis is in great form now,” assured Sinner after his match. “We have so many players, so many different game styles. Lorenzo is maybe one of the biggest talents we have in our sport, so I’m looking forward to this one.”
