Bad, bad news for Dodgers fans!
A loud Dodgers Stadium went silent after superstar Shohei Ohtani suffered an injury during a stolen base attempt in the seventh inning of the World Series game against the Yankees on Sunday. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Ohtani tried to steal and slid into second base. However, he took a nasty fall and landed awkwardly on his left wrist. Ohtani appeared to be in significant pain and was helped off the field by a trainer.
The Dodgers secured a 4-2 win in Game 2.
There is no official update on Ohtani’s injury, but Ken Rosenthal on the FOX broadcast reported that It is a shoulder injury. On the Japanese broadcasts, it was picked up that Ohtani said his “shoulder popped out.”
The incident has cast a shadow over his availability for the remainder of the series.
Ohtani, who has been the centerpiece of the Dodgers’ success this season, has had an extraordinary year, becoming the first player in MLB history to achieve a 50-50 season, with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases.
